University of Arkansas officials plan to unveil an addition to the Arkansas Union: a terrace designed to provide a more casual and personal place for students to study, eat and socialize.

The new south terrace, located on the southeast side of the International Connections Lounge, is set to open at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 29, according to a news release. Daniel Pugh, vice provost for Student Affairs and dean of students, and Taylor Roberts, senior student and chair of the Arkansas Union Advisory Committee Student Board, are scheduled to speak at the ceremony.

Officials said the terrace addition comes in response to student requests for a more subdued and relaxed area around the Union. The terrace will include both a covered and open outdoor seating area, as well as an outdoor fireplace hearth, sustainably grown wood trim, laptop bar, multiple outlet plugs, and seating built from recycled post-consumer milk jugs.
