Maxine’s Tap Room to host Nog Off Dec. 10

Who let the nog out? The folks at Maxine’s Tap Room, that’s who, and that’s also where things will be getting nog wild (sorry) next week at the first ever Nog Off egg nog making competition.

Aw hell nog.

The competition will feature four Maxine’s bartenders* – Ben “Downward Facing Nog” Peterson, Jacqueline “Snoop Noggy Nog” Shin, J.D. “Nogfather” Paul, and Travis “Noggystyle” Lorton – competing to the death in an egg nog making championship to end all egg nog making championships (until next year) on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Patrons can sign up that evening to be judges in a “drinker’s choice” competition, judging nog based on five criteria; aroma, texture, flavor, balance, and creativity. Participation is $8, and all the proceeds will be donated to the Peace at Home Family Shelter.

There will also be a judged competition, including locals Jason Piazza from Hugo’s, Ben Mills of Fossil Cove Brewing Co., Chelsea Smith from Glazers, Kim Crawford from Liquor World, and Dustin Bartholomew (that’s me) from the Fayetteville Flyer.

Maxine’s co-owner Hannah Withers said if things go well, she hopes to expand the event next year to include more local nog makers.

The fun starts at 7 p.m., and the nog will flow like…nog. For a bit more info, or to RSVP, check out the Facebook page for the event.
