The Fayetteville High School Student Council will hold the 16th annual Homeless Vigil on Monday, Jan. 13 in a parking lot along Bulldog Boulevard.

The vigil was originally scheduled for Dec. 5, but was canceled due to snow.

About 25 students will spend the night in cardboard boxes and other makeshift shelters to raise money and awareness for the Families in Transition program, which helps less fortunate students and their families in the Fayetteville Public Schools system.

The vigil will begin at 5 p.m. and will continue until $20,000 is raised.

Residents are encouraged to stop by and leave a monetary donation or contribute non-perishable food items at the vigil site.

Online donations are available via the school’s PayPal account. Pledges can also be made by emailing FHS Student Council sponsor Vance Arnold.
