REMINDER: Maya Angelou ticket reservations begin this week

Update: Reservations were originally scheduled to begin Monday, but were postponed due to winter weather that hit the area on Sunday.

Online ticket reservations for the upcoming Maya Angelou lecture begin this week.

Angelou is set to speak at the Fayetteville Public Library on April 11 as part of the library’s Author Series.

Reservations for free tickets begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 5 through the Fayetteville Public Library website at faylib.org. Assistance will be provided over the phone or in the library to those who do not have internet access.

Individuals may reserve up to two tickets. Reserved tickets must be picked up at the library between March 8-22. After that, unclaimed tickets will be made available to the public on a first come, first served basis at the library.

Library officials will dedicate 1,300 seats for attendees at the library with some of those seats in rooms with simulcast video. Additional seating is available at the Hillside Auditorium on the University of Arkansas campus. Tickets are required for all seating areas.

David Johnson, the library’s executive director, said tickets in the sections closest to the speaker will be issued first, so the sooner you reserve a ticket, the closer you’ll be to Dr. Angelou. Also, reservations are open to anyone, regardless of residency, and library cards are not required to reserve tickets.

The library will be closed on Friday, April 11 to prepare for Dr. Angelou’s visit. Doors will open will open at 6 p.m., and the performance begins at 7 p.m.
