SoNA’s Masterworks II concert set for March 8

Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) returns to the Walton Arts Center this week for another popular Masterworks concerts.

SoNA’s Masterworks II focuses on Johannes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45 (A German Requiem), with a single performance scheduled for Saturday, March 8.

Maestro Paul Haas has explored Viennese music for much of SoNA’s current season, and that trend continues this month with Brahm’s Requiem, which Haas called “one of the most moving pieces” he has ever had the opportunity to conduct.

“It’s emotionally-charged music, and it never fails to leave me a changed person, whether I’m listening to it or conducting it,” Haas said. “It’s powerful, brilliant, and exquisitely beautiful.”

SoNA will be joined by guest vocal soloists Sarah Wolfson and Mischa Bouvier, the SoNA Singers, and the John Brown University Cathedral Choir.

The performance is set for 7:30 p.m., but ticket holders may also attend a conversation event with Haas prior to the concert at 6:45 p.m. in Starr Theater.

Tickets range from $28-48, and are on sale at the Walton Arts Center box office and at waltonartscenter.org.
