Police seek help identifying person of interest in recent hit-and-run accident

Police are asking for help from the public in identifying a person of interest in a recent hit-and-run accident in west Fayetteville.

Police responded to an accident late Thursday, March 20 after a 30-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle while riding her scooter along Wedington Drive. Police said the woman was traveling west through the intersection of Wedington and Steamboat Drive when a black car pulled out in front of her causing the collision.

According to a report, a witness told police the vehicle’s female driver and male passenger got out of their car, but then got back in and fled the scene.

The woman was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center where she was treated for a skull fracture and a broken hand.

Police have released photos of a man who was seen at a nearby business shortly after the accident. According to a news release, the man matches the description of the passenger in the vehicle that fled the scene. He was last seen driving a black vehicle with a missing front bumper.
