“Girl Rising” documentary to be shown at Fayetteville High School performing arts center April 24


A free screening of the documentary film Girl Rising is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24 inside the Fayetteville High School performing arts center.

The film, which is part of a global campaign for girls’ education, follows nine girls who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams.

Girl Rising features original music from Academy Award-winner Rachel Portman, and is narrated by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchette, Selena Gomez and other A-list actors.

The narrators use the words of prize-winning authors to show how educating girls can transform families, communities, countries and eventually, the world.

The event is free and open to the public. Fayetteville High School is located at 930 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
