A road reconstruction project is expected to close Leverett Avenue for up to 10 weeks between North and Cleveland streets.

Crews began work on the project Monday, which includes storm drainage improvements and replacement of deteriorated sidewalks, curbing and street surface.

The work will match improvements made on Leverett Avenue between Cleveland and Maple streets in 2013.

Construction will require closing Leverett Avenue to through traffic from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for the duration of the project. Crews may also work late at night, early in the morning and on weekends.

Traffic will be detoured via Garland Avenue along a marked route.

Residents will be allowed access to their homes during construction hours. Traffic will open to other motorists during non-work hours.

“On the behalf of the city of Fayetteville, we express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area,” said Keith Shreve, the city’s assistant transportation manager, in a news release.
