Bicycle Coalition seeks volunteers for bike assembly events

The Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks just bought a bunch of bikes for local schools, and they need some help putting them together.

The organization has purchased 520 bikes, thanks to recent funding from Walton Family Foundation, Endeavor Foundation, and Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, and will hold a series of events to assemble them beginning this weekend. Once assembled, the bikes will be distributed to schools throughout the district as part of the BCO’s education initiative.

The group has been working to expand the Fayetteville Bike Ed program through the 12th grade so that students will have more time to acquire bike handling and safety skills, be encouraged to ride their bikes more, and to learn about the city’s trail system.

No bike mechanic experience is required to participate. Help is needed doing everything from unboxing bikes and tightening bolts to setting up and adjusting brakes. Bring your tools and bike stands if you have them.

A full schedule of assembly events are listed below. For more information about the program, visit the Bicycle Coaltion’s Facebook group.
