Foster the People was formed in 2009 by multi-instrumentalist Mark Foster, who began recording the band’s signature dance-y melodic pop before adding bassist Cubbie Fink and drummer Mark Pontius.

The following year, the band posted the ultra-catchy Pumped up Kicks to their website, where it took off almost immediately. The track garnered an instant online buzz and radio play, and lead to a packed SXSW showcase. Ultimately, it landed the band a contract with Columbia’s Startime International label. When the song appeared on the band’s 2011 self-titled EP, it became a worldwide hit.

The band just released their sophomore album Supermodel earlier this year, produced by Grammy-winner, Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence and the Machine, John Legend).

Fellow Los Angeles band Fitz and the Tantrums will open the show.

Tickets are $32, and go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at waltonartscenter.org.
