Wanted: 8 volunteers for Fayetteville boards and committees

Officials are looking to fill eight positions on six of the city’s boards, commissions and committees.

The list of vacancies includes volunteer seats on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee, Fayetteville Public Library Board of Trustees, Town & Gown Advisory Committee and three more.

All volunteers must be registered voters who reside within the Fayetteville city limits.

Applications must be mailed or hand delivered to the City Clerk’s office or emailed to [email protected] by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.

Active Transportation Advisory Committee (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired Community Citizen-at-large Bicycle Advocate term ending 12/31/15

Description:This committee reviews public comment, and advises city staff on the prioritization and land acquisition/easements for sidewalks and trails within Fayetteville. Members are also responsible for adopting sidewalk and trails master plans. Recommendations relating to trails are forwarded to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Recommendations relating to sidewalks are forwarded to the Transportation Division.
Meetings: The Committee meets quarterly on the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in Room 326 at the City Administration Building.


City Board of Health (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired physician term ending 12/31/16

Description: This board works to secure the city from contagious, malignant, and infectious diseases.
Meetings: The Board meets quarterly the second Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. in Room 326 at the City Administration Building.


Energy Improvement District No. 1 (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 04/01/18

Description: Board members would oversee the district’s issuance of tax-exempt bonds and loaning of money to property owners using a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing. PACE is a creative financing mechanism that allows property owners to borrow money for weatherization, energy efficiency, renewable energy or water conservation improvements to their property. PACE enabling legislation was passed by the Arkansas Legislature in the 2013 session and signed by the Governor in April 2013.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in Room 326 of the City Administration Building.


Fayetteville Public Library Board of Trustees (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 4/1/18

Description: The purpose of the Board of Trustees is to provide leadership in performing the mission of the Library; to serve as a liaison between the library and the city; and to ensure the library meets the informational, educational and recreational needs of the community.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held on the third Monday of even-numbered months at 4 p.m at the Fayetteville Public Library.


Town and Gown Advisory Committee (3 openings)

Seats available:
– One Ward 2 Resident term ending 9/30/16
– One Ward 4 Resident term ending 9/30/16
– One Business Owner/City Development term ending 9/30/16

Description: This committee advises the City Council and University of Arkansas on mutually relevant issues including campus expansions, on- and off-campus student housing, and parking and noise issues in areas near the campus.
Meetings: The Committee meets the third Monday every other month at 3 p.m. at the AT&T Conference Room, Genesis Technology Incubator, 700 Research Center Blvd., Fayetteville, AR 72701.


Urban Forestry Advisory Board (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One community citizen-at-large term ending 12/31/16

Description: The purpose and intent of the committee is to advise the City Council on urban forestry and arboricultural related issues as an integral part of the city’s green infrastructure and to sit as the Wildland-Urban Interface: Firewise Advisory Board to advise the City Council on wildland and urban development related issues as an integral part of the city’s fire protection program and green infrastructure.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. in Room 111 at the City Administration Building.
