UPDATED: August First Thursday event could be canceled

  • By Todd Gill · Thursday, Aug 7, 2014

Update (11:15 a.m.): The event has been canceled. Officials released the following statement: “First Thursday Fayetteville’s outdoor activities have been canceled. This is not a decision we take lightly, but cannot risk exposing the fragile art and stage electronics to lightning or rain. The reception at the Fayetteville Underground featuring Shifted Territories Group Show and Science Fiction Work of Cheri Bohn will still take place as scheduled.”

ORIGINAL STORY (9:02 a.m.):
First Thursday Fayetteville is set to return to the downtown square today, but only if the weather holds out.

With an 80 percent chance of rain in the forecast, officials with the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau warned that the event would be canceled if the skies don’t clear up.

A decision is expected sometime Thursday morning.

If things work out, expect to see The 1 oz. Jig on the Main Stage from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This month’s beer garden will be located at the Town Center plaza on Mountain Street. The August beer garden charity recipient is Feed Fayetteville, and the featured brewery is Core Brewing & Distilling Co.

Local singer-songwriter Shannon Wurst is scheduled to appear on the KidStage at 5:45 p.m.
