Final KUAF Summer Jazz Concert Series performance set for Aug. 9

  • By Todd Gill · Thursday, Aug 7, 2014

The 2014 KUAF Summer Jazz Concert Series is coming to a close.

The Composers’ Showcase, featuring original compositions of NWA jazz artists, will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville. It is the final performance of the 2014 season.

Headlining the performance are the Claudia Burson Trio, bassist Walter Savage, and Matt “Guitar” Smith. Featured performers are the newly-formed trio, The Tritones, and the Fayetteville Jazz Collective Octet. Special guests include 2014 Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society Scholarship program recipients Garrison Burgess of Bentonville, Michael Hanna of Fayetteville, and Garrison Mozzoni of Rogers.

“This evening will showcase original music composed by some of the region’s best-known jazz talent,” said Robert Ginsburg, executive director of the Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society. “Plus our scholarship winners are distinguished student musicians. They are the upcoming generation and may give us a glimpse of jazz composition’s future. That alone is reason to attend.”

Tickets are now on sale at www.digjazz.com.

The annual summer concert series is co-sponsored by KUAF radio and produced by the Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society, a non-profit organization formed in 1992 with a mission to present, preserve and promote jazz in the region. Concert proceeds fund scholarships for promising high school and college students studying jazz music.
