Fayetteville may finally get the Indian food restaurant it’s been clamoring for.

Local residents Lisa, Larkin, and Abhijeet Purkayastha are working to open a new place called Khana Indian Grill just off the courtyard inside Powerhouse Alley on the bottom floor of The Dickson.

The family said the new restaurant will focus on a small menu of some of their favorite Indian dishes made with local and organic ingredients whenever possible.

“It’s going to be kind of a greatest hits of Indian cuisine,” Lisa told us on Thursday.

The menu for the new restaurant is still in development, she said, but the spice blends will come from Abhijeet’s sister, who owns a restaurant in India.

Plans for the 3,000-square-foot fast casual restaurant include outdoor seating and a large private party area. Lisa said the architectural plans have already been drawn up, and that build-out on the new space will start soon.

Khana Indian Grill will join Marley’s Chicago Style Pizzeria, which is also set to open later this year off the courtyard of Powerhouse Alley at The Dickson. Lisa said she hopes the two businesses can form what could become a new local dining destination.

If all goes well with construction, the family said they hope to be up and running with the new restaurant sometime this fall.
