Buddy Walk benefiting Down Syndrome Connection set for Oct. 18

The largest fundraiser of the year for the Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas is set for this weekend in Springdale.

The organization’s annual Buddy Walk, a family-friendly parade around the concourse of Arvest Ballpark, is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 18.

The event kicks off with a Designer Genes 5K Run at 8 a.m. (registration is at 7 a.m.), followed by live entertainment by local dance troupe, Dare2Dance, games for all ages, a meet-and-greet with Miss Teen Arkansas, a free lunch catered by Chick-Fil-A at noon, and more.

Registration for the main event, the Buddy Walk, is set for 10 a.m., and the walk begin at 11 a.m.

So far, 23 teams have registered for the walk, and all of the proceeds raised during the event will benefit Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas.

For those who aren’t familiar, DSCNWA is a local group that provides support for parents of children with Down Syndrome, as well as information and resource packets for education and awareness for the community. The group also hosts social mixers and activities for people with Down syndrome and their families for fun and support, and provides connections to financial and medical resources for assistance.
