Residents and visitors to the Dickson Street area will soon have a new place to grab essential grocery items, some coffee, or a sandwich to go.

Blackboard Grocery & Eatery, a new small urban market set to open this year at 644 W. Dickson Street, plans to offer all the above and more.

Owner Lycia Shrum said she plans to stock “a little bit of everything.”

“Our main focus is the grocery aspect, but we’ll have a full espresso bar, prepared food, a little cheese, a charcuterie deli section,” she said.

The store will also carry some beer, and hopes to add wine in the future.

Blackboard Grocery is modeled after bodegas like Royal Blue Grocery in Austin, Texas where Shrum lived before she moved to Fayetteville.

Shrum said she worked at a similar store there, and fell in love with the convenience it offered to the neighborhood.

“We’ll be there for people for quick fixes,” she said. “People can come in and find what they need without having to pop in a car and drive somewhere.”

If all goes well, the store will be open in late November or early December.
