Sales tax revenue up in all four major NWA cities

Sales tax revenues were up in the four major cities across Northwest Arkansas, including Bentonville, which bounced back after two months of declining receipts compared to the same months last year.

Fayetteville received $1,654,728 for a 4.73 percent increase over last year, a difference of $74,794. It’s the seventh straight month of positive deliveries for Fayetteville this year compared to the same months in 2013.

Rogers collected $1,274,634, a $108,640 increase over last year when the city received $1,165,995. Rogers has also had a seven-month streak of positive receipts since January compared to the same months last year.

Springdale received $1,042,895 for an 15.05 percent increase over last year, a difference of $136,428. Springdale is the only major city in Northwest Arkansas with positive figures all year compared to the same months in 2013.

Bentonville collected $930,011, a $81,729 increase over last year when the city received $848,282. It’s been a volatile year for Bentonville, which has seen only three months of positive figures compared to the same months last year.

Each city collects a 2 percent sales tax. One percent goes into a general fund. The other 1 percent goes toward repayment of bonds. The numbers reported by the Fayetteville Flyer represent the 1 percent going into general funds.

Sales tax revenue delivered in October reflects August sales tax collected in September.
