The annual MLK Day March began at around 11:30 a.m. Monday after a large crowd gathered inside the Walton Arts Center parking lot in Fayetteville.

This year’s event, sponsored by the Northwest Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Council, the University of Arkansas, and the City of Fayetteville, included brief remarks by Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan.

Participants marched from Dickson Street along Arkansas Avenue and Maple Street to the Verizon Ballroom in the University of Arkansas Union for the traditional noon vigil sponsored by the university’s Associated Student Government, the Multicultural Center and the Black Students Association.
