Local bands chosen to compete for Wakarusa performance

  • By Todd Gill · Tuesday, Jan 27, 2015

Wakarusa organizers have announced the roster for the 2015 Waka Winter Classic in Fayetteville.

The annual battle-of-the-bands-style competition gives local acts a chance to compete for a spot on the Wakarusa music and camping festival lineup.

This year’s classic stops in 20 cities across 14 states, including Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, and St. Louis. Events are also scheduled in smaller college towns like Lawrence (Kansas), Columbia (Missouri) and, of course, Fayetteville.

The process was simple. Bands from each area signed themselves up as candidates, and then organizers narrowed the list down to five groups who’ll compete.

The Fayetteville event will feature local bands Galaxy Tour Guides, The Irie Lions, Vintage Pistol, Move Orchestra, and Crazy Neighbor.

Each group will play a live set during a show at George’s Majestic Lounge beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6. The band that receives the most votes from audience members in attendance at the show will win a cash prize and an opportunity to perform at Wakarusa.
