Arkansas outdoor apparel chain Gearhead Outfitters is planning to open its first Fayetteville store this spring.

The Jonesboro-based company has purchased the building at 608 W. Dickson St. (formerly home to Black Sheep Salon and Soul Yoga Lounge), and is currently working to renovate the space for the new store.

The company, which operates five locations in Arkansas and one in Louisiana, carries a variety of outdoor brands including The North Face, Patagonia, Chaco, and Birkenstock. It is owned by husband-and-wife team Ted and Amanda Herget.

Marketing director Ashlyn Kohler said the ability to share staff, inventory, and resources with their Rogers location along with proximity to the UA and the prevalent outdoor culture made Fayetteville an attractive place to locate.

“There’s just a lot of opportunity there,” Kohler said. “We’ve had a lot of success having sister stores in the same area. And even though our Rogers store is close by, it seems like it’s a totally different audience in Fayetteville.”

In addition to the retail aspect of the company, Kohler said the store will also be home to frequent community events and gatherings.

Kohler said if all goes well, the new store should be open sometime in April.
