A section of Frisco Trail along the west side of Walker Park will be closed for about two months while crews with the city’s Transportation Division work to reconstruct the pathway.

The section – which runs from the skate park south to 15th Street – is part of a 1.2-mile loop around Walker Park, but is also designated as Frisco Trail, which is part of the Razorback Regional Greenway, a 36-mile trail stretching from Fayetteville to Bella Vista.

Matt Mihalevich, Fayetteville trails coordinator, said the original Walker Park loop trail was built using asphalt and is only 8 feet wide. Once reconstructed, the section will match city trail standards, which include 12-foot-wide concrete paths and light poles.

The section will also be straightened a bit to eliminate the winding path which runs back and forth through the trees just west of the soccer fields and batting cages.

Trail users will be detoured northeast to Block Avenue then south to 13th Street during construction.
