‘We’ve Got Dan’s Back’ benefit planned for local musician after spine injury

There are a million great things about Fayetteville, but one of the best is that when a community member is in need, lots of folks come together to help out.

So when local musician, artist, and cofounder of the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks Daniel Dean recently fell from his farmhouse roof and suffered a devastating injury to his spinal cord, Fayetteville did what it always does. It stepped up.

Dan’s friends and family organized a two-day benefit to help cover medical and living expenses for he and his wife Laura Kelly while he undergoes physical therapy at a Colorado facility to recover from the fall.

The event, called “We’ve Got Dan’s Back” begins on Saturday, March 7 with an evening of music at Ozark Folkways in Winslow, AR. Local musicians Jesse Dean, Dave Baer, Shannon Wurst, Susan Shore & Michael Cochran, and Still on the Hill are set to perform. A silent auction is also planned, and there will be t-shirts for sale to help raise additional funds. Admission is $10, food will be provided, and children are welcome.

On Sunday, March 8, a second day of music is planned at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, with performances scheduled by Jeff Kearney, Cutty Rye, Ozark Orkestra, Randall Shreve, Rochelle Bradshaw & Hypnotion. Admission is $10, and since this one’s in a bar, no children will be allowed.

Folks who’d like to help out can also donate to the online fundraiser established for Dan and Laura.

Specific times for the musical performances are below.
