A prescribed burn is planned for Monday, April 20 at Lake Fayetteville on approximately 40 acres north of the Environmental Study Center.

The center is located on Lakeview Drive, also known as Callie’s Prairie. For safety reasons, the paved and nature trails from the center north around to the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will be closed while the burn is conducted.

Prescribed burns are an effective method for prairie restoration and controlling fast-growing woody vegetation that when left unmanaged will transition to the dominant vegetation type. Maintenance of open meadow areas encourages the growth of a diverse variety of native wildflowers.

Oklahoma-based Chloeta Fire (CFI) will plan and conduct the burn.
