One of the biggest Broadway hits of the past decade is coming to Fayetteville this week.

Once, the winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical as well as the winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, opens Wednesday night at Walton Arts Center.

The show, based on the 2007 film of the same name, also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly,” as well as the Los Angeles Film Critics Award for Best Music.

The musical tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together.

Performances are scheduled from Wednesday, April 29 through Sunday, May 3.

On Wednesday night, tickets are available for $25 for students and young professionals as part of a new promotion called SEEK Fayetteville. The tickets come with a pre-party at Fayettechill before the show, and an “open tab” after party at Puritan Brew Co. Here’s more information about that.

Otherwise, tickets to the show range from $36-78, and are on sale now at waltonartscenter.org.
