UPDATE: Whataburger officials said they plan to open the second Fayetteville location in March 2016.

Fast food hamburger fans may soon have another place to pick up a Whataburger and fries in Fayetteville.

The Texas-based restaurant chain recently submitted preliminary designs for a large-scale development planned near the northeast corner of North College Avenue and Joyce Boulevard in north Fayetteville.

According to city documents, the new 3,600-square-foot restaurant would be built at 4030 N. College Ave. on a 0.98-acre site formerly home to several businesses and buildings, all of which are set to be demolished to make way for the new development. Plans show entrances and exits at both College Avenue and Frontage Road with access points to an existing office building to the north and what appears to be another planned construction site to the south.

City planners are set to review the designs at the next regular Technical Plat Review meeting on June 17.

The restaurant would be the second Whataburger location in Fayetteville. Construction of a 3,100-square-foot restaurant is nearing completion at 1920 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
