Residents in east Fayetteville can soon make use of a continuous sidewalk along Mission Boulevard from Crossover Road to Root Elementary School.

Two upcoming construction projects will complete the footpath on a stretch of road that currently offers no pedestrian access.

City transportation crews are set to build sidewalk, curb and gutter on a 0.4-mile stretch between Viewpoint Drive and Lisa Lane. The project is estimated to take 12 weeks, and will include extensive drainage work in some areas.

Farther east, developers of the Mission Heights subdivision are constructing a sidewalk from Lisa Lane to the existing footpath which extends to Crossover Road.

Both sidewalks will be 12 feet wide, according to Keith Shreve, assistant transportation manager.

Shreve said the work will occasionally require restricting traffic to one lane on Mission Boulevard, and that motorists should expect delays. Typical work hours are set for 7 a.m to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but extended hours or an occasional Saturday may be necessary. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic.
