There’s a new mural on display just off Dickson Street.

Fayetteville artist Nick Shoulders recently completed a roughly 12-by-12-foot mural on the north side of the Smoke & Barrel Tavern building.

The mural, titled Aux Arc Purgatory, depicts a landscape in Shoulders signature surreal illustration style, littered with stray bones and strange animals.

In addition to his mural work, Shoulders is also an accomplished illustrator and designer, creating cover art for local bands, and designers for local breweries Fossil Cove and Apple Blossom.

He is also a musician in several local bands (Thunderlizards, Shawn James & The Shapeshifters, Ghost Hollers).

Shoulders completed the work in under a week, starting on June 29 and staying up all night to finish on July 2.

You can check it out on the patio of Smoke & Barrel, or see a few photos below.
