The preseason momentum continues to rise for the Arkansas football team, as the Razorbacks on Wednesday earned their second preseason Top 25 ranking.

After checking in at No. 20 in the preseason Coaches Poll, the Hogs were tabbed as the No. 22 team in the country by Sports Illustrated in its annual preseason preview.

It’s the first time Arkansas has opened a season as a ranked team in three years, and it’s just more fuel for excitement among fans who are eager to see the program return to the spotlight.

The rankings come fresh off the heels of a whirlwind of speculation about the upcoming season.

ESPN College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit last month said he’s leaning towards Arkansas as his prediction for who will win the SEC West in 2015. Less than two weeks later early betting lines released in Las Vegas suggested some surprisingly good odds for the Hogs this season.

Arkansas returns 16 starters from a squad that finished strong in 2014, shutting out ranked opponents LSU and Ole Miss, and handing the Longhorns an embarrassing loss in the Texas Bowl.

The Hogs begin the first practice of fall camp on Thursday, Aug. 6 and will open the upcoming season at Razorback Stadium on Sept. 5 at 2:30 p.m. against UTEP on ESPNU.
