It’s mid August. The UA students are starting to arrive back in town, and after the sleepy summertime, the city is coming to life with energy. All that considered, we’re getting the Weekend Flyer up a little early this week. Thursday is the new Friday anyway, right?

There’s plenty happening around town Thursday night this week.

NWA Jazz Society will host a composers showcase at George’s featuring some of the regions best players. Matt Smith, Ben Harris, Jim Greeson, Paul Price, Drew Rogers, Claudia Burson, Drew Packard, Ken Everts, Darren Novotny, Adams Collins will perform at the event. Tickets are $15-20, available at digjazz.com.

There’s an interesting show at Backspace, the DIY venue at the back of the quanza hut on Center Street with the debut of a new video installation by local artists Wanbli Gamache and Kale Ogle, and music by Ghost Hollers, Hayden Johnson, and King & Darden. Here’s more info.
