One of the city’s most unique art galleries will host an interesting-sounding new show next month.

Bottle Rocket Gallery, located located at 1495 Finger Rd. in Fayetteville, plans to host an opening and performance art piece titled “Gun Piece # 1” by Los Angeles artist Jordan Wayne Long on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Long, a performance and video artist originally from Bald Knob, Arkansas, has performed and spoken about his work throughout the United States and internationally. His work deals with the individual’s relationship to trauma and stress, and the way in which over time they affect both the individual and those around him. The performances are often dangerous, daring, and intense.

Long will discuss his work a few days in advance of the show at the University of Arkansas Department of Art on Thursday, September 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building.

Bottle Rocket will sponsor an opening in connection with this performance beginning at 7 p.m. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the gallery.

We don’t know much about Long’s new piece (only that it involves a mallet, a glass and a gun), but we’ve embedded a few videos of Long’s previous performances below to give you some idea about what to expect.
