Friday, Oct. 2

Pretty much any good weekend is best kicked off with a solid happy hour. This weekend, local legend Earl Cate and his band & Them will play happy hour at George’s with fellow locals, The Mudhawks.

Renowned songwriter Buddy Mondlock will perform Friday night at Fayetteville Underground. Mondlock’s songs have been recorded by Buddy’s David Wilcox, Garth Brooks, Janis Ian, Joan Baez, Nanci Griffith and Peter, Paul and Mary, to name a few. Admission is $12.

An all-star group of local musicians are coming together to perform a Pink Floyd tribute Friday night at George’s. Tickets are $10, and it’s an 18 and up show.

Saturday, Oct. 3

Unknown Hinson

The Fayetteville Public Library’s True Lit Festival kicks off this weekend with several events. There’s a public performances by songwriter Joe Crookston, songwriting workshops, writing workshops, and more scheduled on Saturday. Here’s a full schedule.

Country singer (sort-of), voice actor, and weirdo Unknown Hinson will perform at Smoke & Barrel Tavern on Saturday night. Hinson is best known for his voice work as the lead character on the Cartoon Network series Squidbillies, and for touring around the country with the likes of Hank Williams III and Reverend Horton Heat. He’s also apparently Billy Bob Thorton’s favorite songwriter. Admission is $30 at the door.

The 27th annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival is taking place near Agri Park in Fayetteville. This year, more than 6,000 high school, collegiate, and amateur runners will participate in the event. Here’s a schedule of events.

Maxine’s Tap Room’s popular Singled Out show, featuring performances and interviews with local bands, returns this week. East of Zion will perform and answer the questions this time. It starts at 7 p.m., and there’s no cover.
