A local credit union celebrating 50 years in business in Fayetteville has broken ground on a new facility.

UARK Federal Credit Union on Tuesday held a ceremony to commemorate the beginning of construction of a new 7,400-square-foot branch location on 1.2 acres at 50 E. Van Asche Dr., at the corner of Steel Boulevard.

“We’ve definitely outgrown our current location and are excited to have the opportunity to build our own building.” said Kendra Wylie, business development manager for the credit union. “We currently lease which limits what we can do here, so we’re really looking forward to having a space that is truly ‘UARK.'”

Wylie said the new location will also offer improved access and a more centralized location for customers coming from other cities around the region, as well as a better parking situation for customers.

UARK Federal Credit Union was founded in 1965 by the University of Arkansas Physical Plant. The organization currently operates at 1025 N. Garland in Fayetteville, and has a second location in Little Rock.

If all goes well, the new facility is set to open in June 2016.
