VIDEO: Barrett Baber advances on ‘The Voice’

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Tuesday, Oct 13, 2015

Local songwriter Barrett Baber continues to represent Fayetteville on NBC’s The Voice.

Baber made his second appearance on the show on Monday night in the “battle round,” where he performed the Marc Cohn song Walking in Memphis with fellow contestant Dustin Christensen.

The battle rounds pit singers against each other, with their “coach” ultimately tasked with deciding which of the two performers will advance to the next round.

Once again, Baber impressed the panel of celebrity judges with his performance. R&B star Pharrell was first to weigh in.

“Barrett, the way you sing, it’s really a big deal,” he said.

Gwen Stefani also was high on Baber’s talents.

“From the moment you stepped on stage for the (first round), I was sure you were a professional singer,” she said. “You’re incredible.”

Ultimately, though, it was Blake Shelton who was tasked with deciding which singer would advance. Shelton praised both performances, saying the competition was virtually a draw, before finally naming Baber the winner.

“I chose Barrett because he has a really great voice that cuts through,” Shelton said. “Barrett is definitely a guy that has a future in music. He is just a special guy to be around.”
