Friday, Jan. 8

Some old school punks are getting together with some new school punks for a house show this weekend. Longtime local musicians in Meatsweat will perform with new(ish) bands Witchsister and Drawing Blanks at The Syc House. It’s the first show at The Syc House in a while, and they’re trying some new things to avoid having the police show up this time. Here’s more info.

Local all-female supergroup Divas on Fire are trying to get to Memphis to represent Arkansas in the International Blues Challenge this year, and they’ll be raising funds with a happy hour performance at George’s tonight. It’s $5, and there’s a silent auction. Here’s more.

How about an art show? Little Rock Artist Wendy Newsam will be showing her work at Local Color Gallery this weekend, and the opening reception is Friday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. More information about the show and Wendy’s work is here.

Saturday, Jan. 9

Mike Anderson and the Hoop Hogs will look to make it two straight wins in the SEC when they take on Mississippi State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena. Go Hogs.

Radio personality Bobby Bones will be at Walton Arts Center for two performances on Saturday. Hopefully you’ve already got tickets, though, ’cause last we heard, they’re sold out.

Music-wise, there’s a big show at the Lightbulb Club with locals The Airplanes, Moonsong, and Manchild.

George’s has a Sublime Tribute called Lou Dog, along with local hip hop rockers, Galaxy Tour Guides.

Sunday, Jan. 10

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. George’s Sunday afternoon benefit events where they open up and allow the community to come together to help each other out is one of the best things about Fayetteville. This week, it’s to raise funds the family of Rob Thomas, a local who passed away back in November. The event begins at 2 p.m., and there will be live music by Randall Shreve & the Devilles and Jeff Kearney, as well as a silent auction featuring items from local businesses. Here’s more info.
