Officials with the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department have announced planned lane closures on Interstate 49 in Fayetteville this week.

According to a news release, the inside southbound lane of I-49 will be closed from 8:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. between Exit 62 (Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) and Exit 66 (Garland Avenue) beginning Tuesday, Jan. 12.

The lane closures are necessary to perform corrective work to drainage inlets on the inside shoulder of I-49. The work is expected to last about five days.

Adjustment of the dates of the traffic changes may become necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions, according to a news release.

In July 2013, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a $16.6 million contract to Pace Construction Co., LLC of St. Louis, MO for the project, which will add a third lane for both the northbound and southbound lanes on I-49 between Highway 16 and Porter Road.
