Weekend Flyer: TheatreSquared, Lonely Hearts Club, and Love Gone Bad

Friday, Feb. 12

Local Color Studio Gallery will host an art reception for Steve Adair, and his installation Leaf Forms at 6:30 p.m. Friday night. Adair will also show some of his paintings from his Permanent Beauty Collection. Here’s more info.

Local company TheatreSquared continues their performances of Robert Ford’s new play, Fault this weekend at Nadine Baum Studios. Read Kevin Kinder’s review of the show here. And here’s a full list of performances.

There’s a big show at Walton Arts Center Friday, with the hit musical Mamma Mia! playing all weekend. Hopefully you’ve already got your ticket, because we’ve heard this one’s pretty much sold out.

How about a little reggae on a cold February evening? Locals Rochelle Bradshaw & Hypnotion will be at Smoke & Barrel Tavern Friday night.

Also on Friday night, there’s a rock show at Ryleigh’s with locals Terminus and Bik Fliqqr.

There’s a lot more below, too. Check out the full list.

Saturday, Feb. 13

Wanna watch some people run extremely fast, jump extremely high and far, and throw heavy objects farther than you can? Probably the only place in town for that is the Tyson Invitational Track Meet, taking place all weekend at the Randall Tyson Track Center.

Some University of Arkansas students will be performing The Vagina Monologues: V-Day 2016 a couple times this weekend at the Union Theatre on campus. Tickets are $5, and the proceeds benefit the NWA Women’s Shelter.

How about some jokes? The Lightbulb Club has something called the Lonely Hearts Club Comedy Show featuring several Comedians NWA comics, and headliner Colin Nelson. Here’s more info.

Some local bands have come together for a David Bowie Tribute show at Smoke & Barrel on Saturday. High Lonesome, Manchild, and Moonsong will be performing Bowie tunes.

Sunday, Feb. 14

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone.

A new community storytelling series called TellIt! Fayetteville will make its debut this weekend. The new event makes its first-ever performance at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night at Nightbird Books on Dickson Street.

The inaugural theme this month is “Love Gone Bad,” featuring stories and songs of love lost, forgotten, and tossed. Hosted by local storyteller Kathy McGregor (Prison Story Project) and Memphis folk musician Andy Cohen, this sounds like the place to be on Sunday if you’re looking to celebrate Anti-Valentine’s Day.

Tickets to Tellit! Fayetteville are $10 per person, and proceeds will benefit the local Prison Story Project.

There’s also quite a bit of music on Sunday night.

Melody Pond (formerly The Sisters Sweet) will perform at Maxine’s Tap Room, while Big Bad Gina is at George’s Majestic Lounge, and Cupid’s Bass, Liquid Dropz, and No.F^CES are at Ryleigh’s on Dickson.
