Pretty Things Peepshow coming to Fayetteville Feb. 19

Sword swallowing, knife throwing, whip cracking, burlesque dancing.

It is not every day that you get to see these types of things in Fayetteville, but all of the above will be on display on Friday, Feb. 19 when Pretty Things Peepshow comes back to town for a show at Apple Blossom Brewing Co.

The troupe has been coming to Fayetteville since 2010, when they performed their first show in town at Smoke & Barrel Tavern.

Since then the company, lead by dancer, pin-up girl, model, seamstress, and mastermind Go-Go Amy, has performed hundreds of shows around the world including quite a few right here in Fayetteville over the years.

Her ever-evolving Pretty Things Peepshow has grown to become one of the most well travelled and talked-about shows in the country. The company currently tours about four times per year, twice through the U.S. and a couple times through Europe.

Since the troupe got started back in the late 2000s, burlesque as an art form has exploded in popularity around the country. Amy says while she doesn’t take credit for that herself, she has noticed that every time they return to a city, the crowds that come out to the shows are larger than the time before.

“Our crowds do you get bigger and bigger each time we go out,” she said. “I don’t know if that has anything to do with the scene itself or just that we work really hard on every show and people always come back and bring their friends.”

That is the case for the Fayetteville show as well. The troupe has outgrown their original home at Smoke & Barrel, and will perform in the much larger Apple Blossom Brewing Co. this time around.

Amy said that the larger venue will allow her to set up her full stage, something that they’ve had to scale down at Fayetteville performances in the past.

“I’m very excited to be doing the show at the Apple Blossom because we have a very large stage set that we’ve not been able to set up in Smoke and Barrel,” she said. “Now everyone will get to see all of our amazing scenery.”

Amy said that despite all her travels typically to much larger cities, she always enjoys coming to Fayetteville.

“We do always love coming back to the places with the best crowds,” she said. “And Fayetteville is one of those places.”

The crowds are always great and appreciative of the performances, Amy said, but that’s not the only thing she loves about Fayetteville.

“I also love the Dickson Street Bookstore,” she said. “It’s one of my most favorite book stores in the country.”

The show has totally new acts, with a new cast as well. Death Do Us Part Danger
Show, featuring Rachel and Charlie Atlas, will throw knives and swallow swords. Matt Scott of Rasputin’s Marionettes will put on his naughty puppet show, and Go-Go Amy herself will perform a few times during the evening.

Pretty Things Peepshow will perform at Apple Blossom Brewing Co. at around 10:30 p.m. Friday night (Doors open at around 10 p.m. after dinner service at the restaurant.)
