Mr. Burger restaurant to close in Fayetteville

It’s been a rough year for longtime Fayetteville restaurants.

The latest local place to announce plans to close is iconic Fayetteville drive-in Mr. Burger, which will close for good on Sunday, Feb 28.

Update: We’re now told that the restaurant will close on Friday, Feb. 26.

Shannon Gay, a representative with restaurant operator West Holdings, confirmed the news via phone on Wednesday.

Jose’s, Common Grounds, and Marlo’s Taco Shack are other longtime local restaurants that have also closed or announced a closure this year.

The drive-in style restaurant was the last remaining Mr. Burger of several locations that once operated in town over the years. They specialized in, as the name suggests, hamburgers, as well as a handful of other sandwiches, french fries, milkshakes, etc.

The restaurant, located at 1139 N. Lindell Ave. just off Garland Avenue in Fayetteville, operated out of a building originally built as a Sandy’s Drive-In sometime in the late 1960s to early 1970s.

It had been Mr. Burger, though, for as long as we can remember.

Rest in peace, little burger joint. You will be missed.
