Fayetteville seeks 13 volunteers for boards and committees

Fayetteville officials are looking to fill 13 positions on six of the city’s boards, commissions and committees.

The list of vacancies includes volunteer seats on the Animal Services Advisory Board, the Fayetteville Arts Council, and the Walton Arts Center Council.

All volunteers must be registered voters who reside within the Fayetteville city limits.

Applications must be mailed or hand delivered to the City Clerk’s office or emailed to [email protected] by 5 p.m. Friday, May 27.

Animal Services Advisory Board (3 openings)

Seats available:
– One licensed veterinarian term ending June 30, 2019
– One business representative term ending June 30, 2019
– One citizen-at-large term ending June 30, 2019

Description: This board acts in an advisory capacity on policy matters of the Animal Services Division, and works to stimulate and encourage communication with the community.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the first Monday of the second month of each quarter at 6 p.m. at City Hall.


Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One unexpired alternate member term ending March 31, 2021

Description: The purpose of this board is to hear and to act upon appeals regarding decisions made by the building inspector/superintendent. The board also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development. In addition, the board hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the standard building codes. Information regarding this board can also be found in the standard building code.
Meetings: The board does not meet on a regular basis, as the requests forwarded to this board are infrequent. Members are telephoned a week in advance of the meeting.


Environmental Action Committee (1 opening)

Seats available:
– One term ending June 30, 2019

Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council.
Meetings: Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.


Fayetteville Arts Council (4 openings)

Seats available:
– Two working artist terms ending June 30, 2019
– One arts and cultural/citizen-at-large term ending June 30, 2019
– One unexpired arts and cultural/citizen-at-large term ending June 30, 2017

Description: Helps define the community’s identity and sense of place, promote social interaction, bring the arts into everyday life and memorialize the past while expressing shared values for the future.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held quarterly on the second Wednesday in February, May, August, and November at 6 p.m. at City Hall.


Historic District Commission (2 openings)

Seats available:
– Two terms ending June 30, 2019

Description: This commission recommends the establishment of historic districts to the City Council. Its basic function is to promote the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public through the preservation and the protection of buildings, sites, places and districts of historic interest.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the second Thursday every other month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.


Walton Arts Center Council, Inc. (2 openings)

Seats available:
– Two terms ending June 30, 2019

Description: The council is responsible for reviewing and revising, as required, the center’s policies and fee structure, and for recommending to the Walton Arts Center Foundation passage of the annual operating and capital budgets.
Meetings: Meetings are held quarterly at 4 p.m. in the Walton Arts Center.
