Wanna race? Wanna help provide support for veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes in Northwest Arkansas? How about both.

The 8th Annual Run for Vets, featuring a 4-mile run or 1-mile fun walk, is set for Monday, July 4 at Veterans Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

The run, organized in 2009 by locals Jon Benedict, Janet Stockton-Taylor, and Jerry Bailey, raises funds for veterans program administered by 7Hills Homeless Center that provide support to low-income veteran families. This year, the original organizers passed the torch to current and former 7 Hills employees Solomon Burchfield, Katherine Krueger, Tiffany Hansen, and Colleen Weigle, who will handle the race this year.

The race begins at 7:30 a.m., and festivities around the event include live music, snacks by Ozark Natural Foods, and door prizes.

The cost for the race is $25, the first 300 registrants will receive a commemorative pint glass.
