Sidewalk work to close Morningside Drive in south Fayetteville

City crews are set to begin a sidewalk construction project this week that will close a portion of Morningside Drive in south Fayetteville.

The work includes building a new 5-foot-wide sidewalk with curb, gutter, and storm drainage along the west side of Morningside Drive between Huntsville Road and Fairlane Street.

The project is set to begin Tuesday, July 26 and will require closure of Morningside from Huntsville to Fairlane weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for about six weeks, according to a news release. Residents will be allowed access to the roadway as needed.

From the release:

Detour routes will be marked and will utilize E. 15th Street, Curtis Avenue, and E. Huntsville Road to the east; and S. Wood Avenue and McClinton Street to the west.

Morningside Drive was one of three streets approved for sidewalk construction in Ward 1 this year, along with a 1,010-foot-long sidewalk on Rock Street from College to Mill avenues (in progress), and an 880-foot-long sidewalk on Starr Drive from Mission Boulevard to St. Joseph School.

See our original story for other approved sidewalk projects around Fayetteville this year.

For more information about the project, call the Transportation Division office at 479-575-8228.
