A fairground full of carnival rides, livestock auctions, bull riding, and displays of quilts, photos, preserves & garden vegetables can only mean one thing: it’s time for the Washington County Fair in Fayetteville, set for Aug. 30-Sept. 3.

The state’s largest county fair provides 4-H and FFA youth and county residents with an annual showcase for their talents, whether they are raising rabbits, canning spaghetti sauce, quilting or painting with watercolors.

In 2015, the Fair Association paid more than $40,000 in prizes, or “ribbon money,” in more than 100 categories for junior and open classes. That year, the Livestock Premium Auction paid more than $160,000 to 130 of the fair’s best youth livestock exhibits.

Admission for the fair is $5 for ages 6 and older. Carnival tickets and armbands are sold separately and daily armbands are $25. Each day, the fair offers special pricing and events, along with the traditional displays and competitions.

After more than 150 years, it takes a board of 19 and approximately 4,000 volunteers to put on the show, which features special events each day. Stay connected with all the activities by following the fair on social media, using the hashtag #MyWCF16, and using the new Snapchat filter designed just for the fair.

The Washington County Fair is open to the public each day at 10 a.m. The fair is located at 2536 N. McConnell Ave. in Fayetteville, and parking is free at the fairgrounds. Detailed schedules and additional information can be found at www.mywashcofair.com.
