Ever found yourself watching the curling competition on the Winter Olympics and thought, “I could do that.”

It’s time to put your money where your mouth is, buddy.

That’s because the folks over at The Jones Center will host a free class on curling at their ice rink from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Swiss National team curling champion Dominik Maerki, who happens to live in the area now, will teach the class.

For those who aren’t familiar, curling is a sport in which large, round, flat stones are slid across the surface toward a mark. Members of a team use brooms to sweep the surface of the ice in the path of the stone to control its speed and direction. It has been an official Olympic sport since 1998.

The local clinic on Oct. 22 is intended for folks 12 and up. Jones Center officials say no advance registration is required. Just show up. Wear tennis shoes. Get ready for all your curling fantasies to come true.

The Jones Center is located at 922 E. Emma Avenue in Springdale.
