It’s time for another tree giveaway in downtown Fayetteville.

Free trees and shrubs will be available for Fayetteville residents on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the annual Celebration of Trees event on the Arvest Bank plaza across from the north side of the downtown square.

The event begins at 7 a.m. when staff from the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department and members of the Urban Forestry Advisory Board will hand out up to two plants per resident.

Species available this year include Arrowood Viburnum, Bald Cypress, Black Walnut, Buttonbush, French Mullberry, Parsley Hawthorn, PawPaw, Persimmon, Pond Cyress, River Birch, Southern Catalpa, Spicebush, Sycamore, and Winterberry.

Trees and shrubs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person should be prepared to show proof of Fayetteville residency, such as a recent utility bill or some other form of ID with a current address.

Informational flyers that include plant characteristics, planting suggestions, and management tips will be available with each tree or shrub.
