Voters in northeast Fayetteville will choose a new City Council representative as they head to the polls Tuesday for the Ward 3 runoff election.

Residents will decide between local Realtor and former Planning Commission member Sarah Bunch (see our questionnaire), along with developer and current commission member Tracy Hoskins (did not return our questionnaire).

Bunch took 48 percent of the votes (4,183) in the Nov. 8 general election, followed by Hoskins‘s 36 percent (3,119). A third candidate, Benjamin Harrison (see questionnaire), received 1,350 votes (16 percent).

The winning candidate will replace outgoing Alderman Martin Schoppmeyer, who did not file for re-election.

In Arkansas, if a single candidate does not win a majority of the votes, the two people with the most votes will square off in a runoff election unless the leading candidate receives more than 40 percent of the votes and is ahead of the runner-up by 20 percent.

Schoppmeyer, Harrison, and Ward 2 Alderman Matthew Petty each endorsed Bunch, while the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce endorsed Hoskins. For more information about the runoff candidates, see our story from last week.

Ward 3 includes several neighborhoods in northeast Fayetteville, including the Rolling Hills Drive corridor, and the Huntingdon, Candlewood and East Oaks subdivisions. Gulley Park, Fiesta Square, Lake Fayetteville, and the Northwest Arkansas Mall are also in Ward 3.

Polls are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Registered Ward 3 voters may cast a ballot at any of the following vote centers:

  • The Awakening Church – 5763 E. Mission Blvd
  • Christian Life Cathedral – 1285 E. Millsap Road
  • Sequoyah Methodist Church – 1910 Old Wire Road
  • St. John’s Lutheran Church – 2730 E. Township Street
  • Trinity Fellowship – 1100 Rolling Hills Drive

As always, we’ll be at the Washington County Courthouse tonight to report the outcome of the election on our website and social media channels.
