Hundreds gathered Friday afternoon near downtown Fayetteville for the Love Conquers Hate Stand In, a peaceful assembly that coincided with the presidential inauguration. The event was organized in solidarity with Saturday’s planned Women’s March on Washington, a counter-rally to the swearing in of Donald Trump.

Participants lined both sides of North College Avenue near Dickson Street and the Washington County Courthouse to sing, chant and hold signs or balloons while drivers in passing cars honked and waved.

The event began at around noon and lasted several hours.
