Students at Vandergriff Elementary School are collecting used book donations for the annual Charlie Brown Book Sale.

This year’s sale is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. May 3-4, and from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 5 at Vandergriff Elementary, 2975 E. Township Street.

Children’s books and adult paperbacks are sold for 50 cents, and adult hardbacks are $1.

Named in honor of a chocolate lab adopted from the Lib Horn Animal Shelter of Fayetteville by Vandergriff teacher Sherri Wheeler, the event is the largest annual fundraiser for the shelter.

“This event promotes two great things, reading and supporting homeless pets in our community,” said Justine Lentz, animal services superintendent.

According to Lentz, the sale has raised over $25,000 since it began over a decade ago.

Gently used children’s and adult books may be dropped off by April 28 at the front office of Vandergriff Elementary, or by April 29 at the shelter, 1640 S. Armstrong Ave. Textbooks and magazines are not accepted.
