Weekend Flyer: Brother Moses, Springfest, and more

Friday, April 14

Jeff Austin

Fayetteville band Brother Moses is back in town for a local show at George’s this weekend. They’ll perform with Nashville band, Keeps, and a band called JP & the Lees. Tickets are $10, and it looks like there are still some available.

Grammy-award winning band Los Lobos will perform at Walton Arts Center Friday night. Tickets start at $30.

Remember the Nasty Women Art Month our contributor Kevin Kinder wrote about recently? There’s a small works show associated with the event set to open this weekend at Backspace featuring several local artists along with music by Allison Williams and Rachel Reynolds Luster, and Candice Houston with Adam Cox. Here’s more information about that.

Theatre-wise, there are a couple of shows to check out this weekend as well. TheatreSquared will be performing Intimate Apparel several times this weekend at Nadine Baum Studios, and UA Theatre will be performing Tony award winning musical, Assassins.

There’s a lot more below. Click around for details.

Springfest

Staff photo

The 34th annual Springfest street festival is taking place on Saturday on Dickson Street. The event includes a 5k race, a dog parade, a pancake breakfast, and easter egg hunt, perfomances by local DJs, some Arkansas craft beer, and of course, the annual bed races. Here’s what we know about this year’s event.

The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will host a Spring Fling include activities for children, a live musical performance, and a special edition of their Little Sprouts program. Here’s more info on that.

Music-wise, locals The Too’s and Youth Pastor will be at Smoke & Barrel, and there’s a big reggae show at George’s with The Irie Lions, Rochelle Bradshaw & Hypnotion, Butterfly & Irie Soul, and others.

Also Saturday night, the Nasty Women small works show at Backspace will be closing with a rock show featuring locals Witchsister, Ten High, and others. There’s a $5 cover, and most of the proceeds will go to NWA Center For Sexual Assault.

Wanna see some classically-trained musicians live-score for the 1927 German expressionist science fiction film Metropolis? Head down to Artist Laboratory Theatre Saturday night for the Trillium Salon Series show. We interviewed the series creator this week.

There’s a lot more below. Have some fun.
