TheatreSquared will break ground on its new permanent home in downtown Fayetteville later this month.

Construction of the 50,000-square-foot venue will begin at 4 p.m. June 23 at 477 W. Spring St., officials announced.

The event will also mark the start of the company’s public fundraising campaign, called “Our Next Stage,” aimed at raising the remainder of the money needed to complete the $34 million facility.

TheatreSquared has lead commitments of $12.5 million from the Walton Family Foundation, $3.1 million from the Fayetteville City Council, and $3 million from the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission.

The City Council also granted a rent-free land lease to TheatreSquared for construction of the facility at the southeast corner of West Avenue and Spring Street.

T2 officials said the current fundraising total, including lead commitments, will be announced at the campaign kickoff ceremony. A documentary film crew with American Theatre Wing, founder of the Tony Awards, will join T2 staff, artists and a committee of campaign leaders at the groundbreaking.

Designed by Marvel Architects and Charcoalblue, the new venue will feature two performance stages, and will include rehearsal areas, costume and prop shops, dressing rooms, a green room, and administrative offices. Public common areas with educational and gathering spaces are also included in the plans.

Arkansas-based construction firm Baldwin & Shell will construct the facility, which is expected to be open in time for TheatreSquared’s 2019 season.
