Artists wanted for upcoming JustKids event in Fayetteville

Fayetteville-based artists hoping to take part in the upcoming Green Candy public art event have one week left to submit their ideas.

Experience Fayetteville, the city’s tourism department led by the Advertising and Promotion Commission, is currently accepting proposals from artists who either live in Fayetteville or who are actively involved in the Fayetteville art community to participate in the project.

The commission last week voted to contract with JustKids for the event, scheduled from Aug 17-27 in the days leading up to the Fayetteville Roots Festival. JustKids is the same group who curated the renowned “The Unexpected” street art festival in Fort Smith and the recent owl mural painted by Puetro Rican artist Alexis Diaz in downtown Fayetteville.

JustKids will curate the event, choose locations and contract five local and international artists to create five murals and site-specific murals, sculptures or installations. At least two Fayetteville-based artists are expected to be chosen.

Selected artists must be available to produce their accepted artwork by Aug. 17, and have it fully completed and installed by Aug, 24.

The work must be semi-permanent and appropriate for outdoor display. The proposed artworks should touch on the subjects of recycling, conservation, and/or sustainability, according to the Experience Fayetteville notification.

Submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 17. Accepted artists will be notified by July 26.

According to the request for proposals, artists should provide a description of the proposed work, a rendering or sketch of the artwork , a portfolio featuring at least two previous relevant artworks, and a list of materials and equipment needed to create and install the proposed artwork.
